THE WORLD OF ATTRACTIONS IN CLÉO DE 5 À 7 (1961) AND IL POSTO (1962)

In the “Cinema and The City” class at the American University of Paris (AUP), I wrote the paper “The World of Attractions in Cléo de 5 à 7 and Il Posto”, comparing the main characters of Cléo de 5 à 7 (1962) directed by Agnès Varda, and Il Posto (1961) directed by Ermanno Olmi, focusing my attention on the relationship between gender and space, as well as the protagonist’s experience of being flâneuristic in the city.

I found out that after the spiritual journey, Clèo was born again as a flâneuse and affirmed her position in the Parisian society, while Domenico finally found a steady job in the Milanese industry and he discovered his real identity through a process of dual identification of the self.
